In one of the darkest times in Israel’s history, Elijah the prophet “bowed himself down on to the earth... put his face between his knees” and cried out for rain. He sent his servant to look for any sign of rain. Six times his servant came back to report no wind, no clouds, no rain, no hope... ”there is nothing.” The seventh time his servant came back and said, “Behold, a little cloud like a man’s hand is rising from the sea.” He arose and told his servant: tell the king, get moving, the skies are about to let loose. (I Kings 18:41-46)
In many of our metropolitan areas, these are not the best of times politically, economically or socially. However, we have been praying with our faces to the ground, and we see a cloud the size of man’s hand rising from the sea. There is a palpable spirit of expectation and excitement filling these areas.
